Consciously focusing....

It’s actually amazing you know. The amount of creative energy we have, I mean. Don’t you agree? Take a moment, if you will, to think about all the things you have created in your life so far. All the things you’ve enjoyed. All the things that have helped you grow. All the things that have caused you sadness, despair, and unhappiness. If you were to put all the “good” things you’ve created on one side of a set of scales, and all the “bad” things on the other side – which would be heavier?

Now you might say “but I didn’t create all the unhappy things in my life. They just happened”. To some degree I would agree that is true. Whilst we may not have actually “done the deed”, we need to understand that it was our thoughts and focus that were the catalyst in creating them and attracting them into our lives.

Think about this analogy that I’ve used before. You wake up in the morning and it’s cold outside. You don’t really want to go into work because you have that meeting that’s going to be a bit difficult AND you have that report to write and you don’t know where to start. When you get out of bed, you accidentally bang your toe on the leg of the bed and shout, swear, and jump up and down. You then shower and get dressed, maybe have some breakfast. Then you brush your teeth and, damn, you spill toothpaste down your shirt. No time to change now as you’re running late. So you get to the station and, aaaargh, all the trains are delayed. You get into work late and, consequently go to the meeting late. You’re angry and frustrated. The meeting doesn’t go well and your boss ends up shouting at you about it, and about the report that should have been in on Friday that is still unwritten. And slowly your day just gets worse, and worse. You get the picture I think. Your whole focus is upon “this is a horrible day and nothing is going right for me”. And so the day just gets continually worse and, if you’re not careful, so will the rest of the week!

But! Bing! There it is! The focus. The focus of the whole day started with “I don’t want to go to work”. That was potentially the initial catalyst for creating all those things you didn’t actually want to experience. Underlying your conscious thoughts for the whole day was “I don’t want to be here”.

You see even if we’re not always aware of them, where our thoughts are is where our focus is. Where our thoughts and focus are, that’s where our energy flows. They’re like a magnet. Both energetically and subconsciously speaking, what we focus upon, we create more of. Or put different: what we focus upon, we attract more of. If your underlying thoughts about work are “I don’t want to be here” then the subconscious will actually do it’s absolute utmost to make sure that you don’t want to be there. Why? Because it’s limited in its capacity to understand what you really want. It only does as it’s told – which is follow the basic commands you give it. In this case “I don’t want to be at work today”.

Energetically speaking, like-attracts-like. So when you’re feeling crappy because of thoughts you are thinking, the energy that those feelings are creating just attracts more of the same. Further, the more you think them, the more you feel them, the worse it gets! The only way to change all this, is to change your focus. That’s why it’s so important to be aware of what you’re thinking and feeling. It’s the best and most effective way of knowing where you’re focusing.

If we spent as much time focusing upon the things that we DO want as we do on focusing upon the things we DON’T want, imagine the wonderful things we’d be creating in our lives? Imagine if we spent even more time focusing upon the things we DO want than the things we don’t?

A wonderful thing is about life is that WE get to choose what we focus upon. How fantastic is that?! No one can force us to think or feel anything we do not want. How powerful is that?! Can you feel the energy of the statement "Only I have the power to choose what I think and feel". Woohooo!

It’s all about paying attention to where we are focusing. It’s all about being present. In the present, we can be aware of what we’re thinking and feeling. In the present we can shift our focus to thinking thoughts that feel better, which in turn creates and attracts what we want. Where’s your focus?
