Wiz-dom from Oz

One of my all time favourite films is The Wizard of Oz. I even have my very own, custom made Ruby Slippers... when sitting pondering what the movie meant to me, personally, I reflected upon the characters and realised they all exist, every day, in my life in some way, shape or form...

For example, Tin Man is a fine example of what happens to us when we ‘lose heart’. When we lose heart, we become cold, rigid and robot-like. Living a repetitive and meaningless life does not help us to exercise our ‘Loving’ Muscle! For that is what the heart is, a muscle. Any muscle, when left unused for any length of time, goes into atrophy. And so it is with Love.
If we are living a life that is meaningless, and the things we are doing are without heart, we lose interest and intention. Life becomes a chore and eventually, we seize up.

Scarecrow feared he didn’t have a brain, because although he could think, his thoughts were undisciplined, and had nowhere to go. He couldn't focus on one thing, and his thought processes, therefore, were in chaos and leading nowhere. He, in effect, wasted his brainpower, until he learned to use it to get where he wanted to go, but the catalyst was Dorothy, because until she came along and helped him to realise it, he didn’t have a direction. He thought his only purpose in life was to hang at the crossroads, until Dorothy reminded him of his desire to be able to think good and useful thoughts!

Dear Lion was what we would term a ‘bully’… and as we know, all bullies are just cowards, hiding beneath a brave exterior and they only ever show their ‘courage’ to those weaker and more vulnerable than they are. Once Dorothy faced her own fear and ‘stood up’ to him, she revealed his true self, and unless she had done so, he would never have exposed it and found the way to True Courage.

All these things, Wisdom, Heart and Courage, are commendable aspects of one’s personality, but they only gain momentum and standing when they are united, as in Dorothy. Not unusually, these traits surface and flourish when watered and nurtured with ... LOVE.

And this treasure chest of worthy gifts is only found within us, by the deeds we do without…

You can only find your heart through loving another – you can begin to feel your heart by being loved by others!

You may have a brain, but you must determine the thoughts that it thinks. What is the point of being able to think, if you cannot also direct those thoughts wisely? Maybe wise should bed spelled ‘WIZE’ instead? wise thinking is the stuff of sages and Wizards… (What is more important then Knowledge? asked the Mind. Caring and Seeing with the Heart, said the Soul).

Courage comes from facing yourself, and facing your inner fears, which are always manifested outside of yourself by someone or something else. In this way, our inner is mirrored on the outer! Clever, eh?

When Dorothy helped to free the Tin Man, she did not do so alone, for it took the structured and wise thinking of Scarecrow to help her. When the three friends encountered the bully in the form of the Cowardly Lion, they put those qualities together and formed a friendship. They showed Lion that it was possible to change his behaviour, and gain friendship and love, not push it away. Bullies need to be taught that it’s okay to be gentle and loving. Being any other way is useless, isolating and unsociable! But most of all it is not Loving – either to your victim, or yourself.

Dorothy already had the unrecognised qualities of the others present in her, but having those qualities mirrored for her in the form of her 3 friends, it became easier to see what she was blind to.

Getting to Oz helped them all to see the ultimate truth, that you are your own Universe and the answers to all your questions lie within you, and only you. Clues and signposts are there, if we have eyes to see, hearts to hear and courage to follow our own directions…

And we are all capable of getting ourselves to Oz… and Back!

The Wizard is the embodiment of the idea we hold of our Destiny or Goal, which we all think we have to get to. The Wizard's role is an illusion, for no-one knows our own hearts, minds and souls as we do. The Wizard turned out to be an illusion, a little chap with big ideas about himself and he actually fell into the role by default... as, I suspect, a lot of people in aurhoritarian positions, in our world, do! Once challenged, he changed and in actual fact, he could stop pretending about his life, and get on with his life as it should be!

One final thought for you to ponder upon... Dorothy never lost her connection with Home on her way to the Emerald City... because of the Yellow Brick Road. The moment she strayed from it, she fell into a deep sleep... which is what happens to our soul when it strays off-centre! We become distracted by attractive illusions and forget who we really are and where we are really headed... Home, to ourselves! I think the Yellow Brick Road reminds me of the 'silver cord' I've heard connects our soul to Source...

So, Munchkins, have fun and remember... There's No Place Like Home!

Love, light and Lollipops... Jay xoxox
