Are you ready for it? Are you ready to give your all to get your all? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to fulfil your needs? If the answer is YES, read on. If the answer is no, read on any way as you may well experience something new…
Wealth is nothing but a feeling, a perception we have of ourselves. Yes the countless number of bills and finite pounds in your bank account say different. But, the truth is every single one of us is born with an immense wealth we cannot conceive of with our tiny brains.
We simply don’t tap into our wealth. We are born with everything we need. As we grow older we grow into the illusions provided by our family, friends, teachers, neighbourhood, culture and so on. Each of these then dictates how we feel about ourselves. Over time, these feelings cover our birth rights like dust on a light bulb. Our wealth still shining, just hidden under layers of dust.
Each layer of dust is merely an illusion, a learnt emotion or pattern of behaviour. Think of it this way, sitting in our home we glance over at the light and see the dust obscuring the light. We think ‘oooh there’s dust over there’. We then express our discontent by either complaining (yuck, look at that dust I, must be living in a pig-stye) or by asking for the duster (Let’s get that cleaned and awesome again). This thought expressed is then followed by either doing nothing (still glancing over at the dusty bulb) or taking action. In this case, taking action means standing up, collecting the duster and using our muscles to move it up and down and all around until the bulb is dust-free and shining brightly. Voila, bright light shining out and so nice to be able to see clearly!
This metaphor of dusting our illusions away can also be applied to the every day mundane events. Take me for example. Having been unemployed for a year and using the time to set-up my business has made for a very tough financial year. Looking at the bills and my bank account each month has been a nightmare – my bulb has been covered in dusty layers of unworthiness, fear, doubt and more. So I started to express my discontent to all who would listen which led to me searching for a way to clear the dust more actively. I began by looking at the world around me for a clue..
Just this week, I was sitting on the bus and noticed a cab pull over abruptly. The cabbie jumped out and stopped an elderly lady from walking in front of the bus. He then took the time to ask where she was going, took her by the arm and led her across the road and into the station; shopping bags, walking cane and all.
These days it is rare to see such an act of kindness and such gentle steering in the right direction. It got me thinking just how rich an experience it was for me watching. As I sat on the bus, there was nothing I could do to help, so instead of feeling helpless (another layer of dust), I chose to see the beauty of that moment, and be grateful for the wonderful feelings it evoked for the lady, the cabbie and myself, then to pass them along (losing that illusion of dust).
Although I had done nothing, I benefitted so richly from observing that one act of kindness, that I now see random acts of kindness all day, every day. My bulb is shining brightly, talk about being priceless – no amount of money can compensate for that feeling.
What has become even more evident is that the more acts of random kindness I witness, the more I make of my own, and the more kindness I give and receive, the more I value I place on them. The more I value, the more people around me start to value me.
Now, I hear you ask, how does this translate into being able to pay bills and feel like a multi-millionaire? Well, as I have valued the people, places and world around me, I have noticed each of these events are gifts.
Each gift has been a signpost for me, leading me to new and exciting experiences and these have resulted in jobs, short contracts and longer periods of doing the soul work I love best. The feelings these sequences create in me is like a well of never-ending gifts for which I am extremely grateful for as they have shown me how little I truly need to thrive.
I now pay my rent and bills on a salary that is a third of what I earned in the corporate world, yet I am richer than I have ever been. I see and feel love and kindness all around me every day. Priceless. At the end of the month I may not have many pounds left over, but there is always enough to make me feel I am a multi-millionaire.
So, are you up for that secret, the completely free way to feel like a multi-millionaire I mentioned earlier? Here it is:
1. Commit to love. 2. Commit to change and 3. Look for a DIFFERENT future, not a ‘better’ one.
Oh, and remember you were born with riches beyond belief, accept that and you will see the way to live life without struggling. The essence of being wealthy beyond belief is feeling it.
