IS THERE A HELL?
Some ancients scriptures describe Heaven and Hell in great detail but there is little acceptance of these very different accounts by young people today. To sceptical modern young people it seems as though Priests and Kings found the promise of Heaven and the threat of Hell very useful in making people obedient to the rules of behaviour and belief laid down by authority from above.
The only modern evidence available on the subject comes from the accounts given by people, who are now in the afterlife, of what they have actually experienced since their death. These spirits report a wide range of good and bad existences, ranging from the delightful to the horrible.
The great majority say that they are delighted with their new life. Dr Raynor Johnson who was Principal of a University College was asked if he found anything unexpected in his new life, He said, “It is really more wonderful than I thought it could possibly be.”
A spiritualist friend I knew, Professor Wilson Knight, returned to say,
“Michael, it is better than we thought”. An eleven-year old boy returned to say
“It's lovely! I wouldn't go back now – I can do everything. Can you stand on top of the Eiffel Tower? I can!” There are literally thousands of similar accounts to these of people who thoroughly enjoy life in the next dimension - but what of the others who
find themselves in something like a Hell? Let us look at some of these reports.
On 23rd of August 2001, at about 3.30p.m., a lady, speaking to us through the medium Sheila Gwillam, said she had been hanged.
What follows is a transcript of the recording I made at the time.
Michael: “Welcome friend. Would you like to speak to us?
Spirit: “I know I’m dead because the words, ’You will be hanged by the neck’ are embedded in my mind.’”
Michael: “We understand!”
Spirit: “The last moments of my death keep playing them, and I can’t seem to get a way from the thoughts”.
Michael: “We’ll see what we can do to help you”.
Spirit: I know I did not obey the law but I still feel resentment at the injustice”.
Michael; Now we are a group of people who—
Spirit: (interrupting) “It doesn’t make any difference. It still goes round in my head that if it is wrong to take a life, why was my life taken. It’s not justice, it’s revenge, and my thoughts are on a wheel of coping with the condemnation and resentment and guilt. I feel guilty for having destroyed someone’s life but if they’re not dead when you kill them, why does one have to be hanged by the neck if it is a wrong thing to do? How can it be wrong if they’re not dead? “I have no sense of time. It seems like an eternity but they tell me it isn’t that long.”
This lady found herself in the dark and it took us some time to free her and help her to move on in peace to a happier state. In earthly time she had been stuck in her situation for 46 years. Now let us listen to someone who had to wait in the dark for very much longer than that.
M. “Would you like to talk to us?
No answer
Can you hear my words?
Medium nods slightly.
Are you happy?”
Spirit: “No!”
M: “We can help people who are unhappy. Tell me, is it light or dark where you are?”
Spirit: (Slowly) “Dark. I need some kind, I don't know the word in your language, but I need forgiveness for the many terrible things I did in a position of great authority when there was so much – so very much - chance to do something.”
M: “We understand your feelings”
Spirit: “This is not easy.”
M: “We understand.”
Spirit: “I lived many years ago in Egypt. I was, I think one would say, a High Priest in one of the Councils. I abused my position of power, not so much by what I did, but what I failed to do.
I did not want to come tonight, but I was told it was the only way that I would gain some measure of peace and move forward.”
M: “I am sure this is true. Telling us about it is your first step and there is hope for everyone. Would you like to tell us a little more or is that enough?”
Spirit: “There was so much bloodshed, so much misery and loss of life among the slaves and workers who were building the temples and the pyramids which people now, I understand, wish to see. What they do not see, is the horror that took place, much of it I am ashamed of. To say it was not just me, does not make it any easier. I could have done so much more.”
M: “Have you had this burden ever since you passed?”
Spirit: “Yes, it has been this darkness, and yet reliving all these horrific scenes. No chance to put it right and the great feeling of sorrow and sadness because I have had to live through the anguish and pain that went on.”
M: “Now everyone can achieve peace eventually. All will progress eventually. Being willing to repent, to regret, to confess are the steps which will lead you on to peace. You have made a start.
Do you have anybody who has already passed who you would like to see again, who could come and talk to you to help you and advise you?”
Spirit: “I had great respect and love for my father who was a good man. If he could help me and forgive me, it would help.”
M: “Now, what we want to suggest is that we all make a wish, all of us here, for your father to come. But you will have to make the biggest wish, 'Please, father, come to me', and I think we may be successful. You may find it will start to become lighter and somebody will come to you out of the light. Let us all make the wish now, 'Dear father,come!'
Now I will keep quiet and ask you to tell us if something changes, it gets lighter, you hear something or you see something. We will now wait to see what happens.”
A pause occurs.
Spirit: “I can see the sky!”
M: “Good, it has started.”
Spirit: “The night sky, with all the stars. It fills my heart with joy!”
M: “Think of your father – what he looked like, what he sounded like.”
Spirit: “There is light up in the air – and voices! I feel as if I am moving up. The voices are crying, 'Come, come forward, you have paid the price – now you can come into the light!”'
M: “Your ordeal is over.”
Spirit: “Thank you!”
M: “We give you our love and our blessing.”
Spirit: “I feel I did not deserve to feel such joy again.”
M: “God's love is infinite, infinite. Be happy now.”
(The medium was feeling the speaker as a large strong man with an elaborate headdress, looking something like a dog's head. The medium,Valerie, said “I think he must have been reliving a lot of the scenes that were going on. I could see men hauling stones and being whipped and things like that.”)
There are some cases much worse than these which I will not quote here. The question of 'Is there a Hell?' I leave the reader to decide.
