BOOK REVIEW: Tarot - Plain and Simple by Anthony Louis, illustrated by Robin Wood Published by Llewellyn Worldwide 322 pages with black and white illustrations of each card taken from Robin Hood Tarot deck. $16.95
"Zen teachers do not lecture, they wait for a question to be asked!"
Over 150,000 copies already sold of this excellent user-friendly book, ideal for beginners especially. All 78 cards are explained with key words and phrases and situation and advice, including card inversions. The author, Anthony Louis is a retired psychiatrist and a highly respected teacher. He provides examples from his own clients and suggests six very insightful spreads, including laying out five cards each morning for a review at the end of the day, a horoscope spread of thirteen cards, a celtic cross spread and a twelve month spread. Astrological and numerical connections are included. Carl Jung's explanation of causality and Einstein's space-time continuum are covered, as is the history of tarot card use and how tarot works. Louis helps the reader to get in touch with the archetypal wisdom of the collective unconscious as he suggests the cards provide the equivalent of a Rorschach ink blot test onto which we project our situation. The book is ideal for those who wish to read for themselves or read cards for others and is the best book for beginners I have read. Anthony Louis is also the author of 'Horary Astrology' and 'Tarot Beyond the Basics'.
